Downtown was lovely today, one thing i love about this city is getting caught at a traffic light only to see the green hornet being filmed. (loveeee seth rogen) Although at times I'd rather be in NY, and I'm reminded at times that I am truly lucky to live in L.A. It's all about networking with people and the connections you make. I'm so lucky to made those kind of connections with the vendors I have met in L.A. Without them i would not be in business. I am very thankful for all of the discounts I am given when I visit there stores, I am a very loyal person.
Anyhoot..on a creative note...I've posted new and bright feather hair accessories up on myspace. I am seriously falling for fall. Fall is going to be bold, bright colors, big statement. I just hope this weather would chill out... seriously. Wayyy too hot. Well, I'll leave you with this..

The Hutch

Here it is! My latest before/after project: The Hutch.

This baby took me a little longer than my previous refinish projects but isn't it worth the wait! I'm absolutely in love with it. I walk around the room looking at it from different angles and it makes me smile:)

experimentaion

Today I''m going to my secret location to buy more material and get down to business working on new designs and revamping my line. Leather seems to keep popping up in my thoughts...so, lea-Tha is what i'll be experimenting with. I won't go into full detail in what I plan on con-cocking with, but It's going to be major. All leather comes from %100 recyclable materials. I try to keep it as "green" as possible. Also, I'll be launching my official fancyThat site soon, I've just been so busy managing every other social networking site I'm on...it gets a little hectic. Another thing... thank you to all of those gals who keep sending me messages about wanting to be apart of fancyThat team. Although I would like some extra help...I like to work alone. Sorry.. :P Maybe in the future, but as for now, I simply cannot. But I am flattered that so many people took a interest in my company. Off to L.A.

So you have a wonderful creation that you are going to sell on Etsy.

How do you spread the word?

Wear it Loud and Proud Recycled LP Necklacetresijas.etsy.com

You need to convince all of those Etsy shoppers that your creation is the one they want.
This will involve promoting your work with packaging, advertising, and publicity.
First, let's talk about packaging.

"Good packaging arrests the eye, attracts the heart,
and perfectly suits the product being promoted." Martha Stewart
The packaging should reflect the quality of the product inside.
You've spent some time making your creation,
spend a little time packaging it up nicely, too.
Who doesn't love getting pretty package?

Recycled packaging can be attractive -
use the same creativity to fashion your packaging that you use to make your creations.
Wrap it up in tissue, or with a ribbon (all recycled, of course!).
Use pages from an old book or magazine and pieces of fabric.

Try to be consistent with your packaging - make it part of your branding and image.
Many sellers do this by including a photo of their packing in their listing of their item.

mi vida.. my life

So last night was uh-maz-ing. Had a great turn out! Got to meet a lot of new customers and well as catch up with up my regulars. Now, that this is over... i am completely swapped with orders and well as re-filling my inventory. I would have to say the items of the night were definitely my crochet beanies. At the end of the night all 13 were gone! Major shocker. I'm also happy to report fancyThat will officially be at Mi Vida Boutique in South Pasadena.I'm so excited to add another boutique to my ever growing list. I feel truly blessed. So, i'll end with this...Thanks to all my fancyCostumers who came out last night and supported me.

Halloween Ideas

A fun idea for celebrating Halloween is to return to the 50's....you remember, "Happy Day's" and "the Fonz". What a great theme for a Halloween Party......good music, comfort food, fun dances like the bop, the hand jive and the lindy. Here are some things you may want to consider when planning your 50's party.

Pink and black were the hot colors in the 50's, so use them to decorate with. How about a pink table cloth with black paper plates and accessories, have pink and black balloons and streamers hanging from the ceiling, and don't forget the fuzzy dice..... and the costumes can be poodle skirts for the girls and white tee shirt's (with the sleeves rolled up of course) and jeans for the guys.
Not only do you have great music to choose from, but the 50" had some great dances'....check out this youtube video and get inspired. Imagine what fun it can be.......have someone come as Dick Clark and set up your own American Bandstand dance contest......or invite an Elvis (or two),
and make sure your serving foods from the 50's like macaroni and cheese, meatloaf and pie for desert.

Decorating for Halloween

I love Halloween....it's a chance to behave like a kid again. After all, how often do you get to play dress-up and spend a couple of hours acting like someone or something else? Decorating with playful accessories can set the mood weeks before the actual day you get to dress up. Halloween candles flickering around the house and Jack o Lanterns in the windows what better way to get ready for the costume party.

Have fun with this holiday.....give in to your urge to be silly, to act out....stop taking things so seriously.

Today is today and tomorrow is tomorrow..

Finally finished all of my order and shipped them all out! My finger and toe are in much better shape, thanks for asking. :D
Only to come back home and see i have 6 new messages from myspace asking if i could make custom headbands for halloween..haha.I LOVE IT! I guess everyone is going to be a flapper, hippie,or a indian. Which is really cute. But don't worry each hair accessory will be different and unique in it's own way. That's just how I do it. :p
Oh, yes..i must do some viral marketing while I have your attention:

This isn't just for fancyThat.
This is for MI VIDA boutique, we're trying to spread the word on this ridiculously cute shop right in my own backyard of South Pasadena..So, i hope everyone I invited could make it.

I burned the inside of my right middle finger and my toe...?how, i don't even know. My finger and toe have been in ice for almost two hours and it is still on fire.So..i can't function at the moment. Bunk beds

I think I'm going to get bunk beds for my boys in the spring. Their room is feeling a little squished and I think it will open it up and give them some floor space. When I picture bunk beds, this is the vision I see....

From Zimbio

This is what my boys picture in their sweet little heads.....

From Crayon Castles

But this is closer to the version we will probably get...

From Pottery Barn Kids

And check out this amazing bunk bed....

Holiday Decorating

photo found here

Do you decorate for holidays? For every holiday or just your favorites? I used to. I would put up something, either on my walls or table, highlighting the upcoming festivities. I had decorations for every holiday invented. Somewhere along the way I stopped. Now I decorate for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and the occassional Valentine's Day. I think I just got too busy to give each holiday it's very own fanfare. I'm getting a little sad because of this. I'm going to try and mend my ways. I believe that each holiday deserves it's own special time dedicated to it and it alone. None of this Christmas decorating in November. What about Thanksgiving's feelings? Does no one care about Thanksgiving anymore?!? And Halloween decorations as soon as school starts!?! I'm an equal opportunity holiday observer!

I know my children would love to see red, white & blue bunting on the 4th of July, pastel colored eggs at Easter, childbirth photos on Labor Day. (That is why I celebrate Labor Day, don't you?) It is my goal to improve my holiday-decor-slacking ways. Now where did I put that box of Columbus Day decorations?

Sustainable Furniture

These Zaishu slot-together seat/tables are made from Australian hoop pine, which is a native Australian sustainable wood. They are silk-screened or hand painted with water-based inks and then varnished, also water-based. The stools come packaged flat in a reusable cotton bag. I'm loving the unique art work and functionality. Beauty + Function = Amazing!
